At City Surf Project, we believe the ocean should belong to everyone.
Every year, we provide surf instruction, mentorship, leadership development, and transformative outdoor experiences to young people across San Francisco. Through the power of surfing, we help youth build confidence, community, resilience, and a lifelong connection to the ocean.
We're looking for a strategic, relationship driven Development Director to help lead our next chapter of growth.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who loves building partnerships, connecting people to meaningful causes, and creating sustainable revenue strategies that make a lasting impact.
What You'll Do
Lead City Surf Project's fundraising and revenue strategy
Cultivate major donors and corporate partnerships
Oversee fundraising campaigns, events, and donor stewardship
Collaborate with organizational leadership to drive long term sustainability
Help grow a mission driven organization creating tangible impact in the lives of Bay Area youth
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone with experience in nonprofit fundraising, business development, donor relations, or partnership management who is excited to build relationships and help expand access to the ocean for the next generation.
Position Details
Location: Hybrid. Applicants must reside in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
Schedule: Full Time
Salary: $95,000–$125,000 DOE

Alumni Surf Instructor
Help the Next Generation Fall in Love with the Ocean
You grew up with City Surf Project. You know what it feels like to catch your first wave, build confidence in the lineup, and find community on the beach.
Now it's your turn to pass that on.
As an Alumni Surf Instructor, you'll support surf programs for young people across San Francisco while developing leadership, coaching, and professional skills of your own. Whether you're helping a student zip up their first wetsuit, celebrating their first ride, or helping keep the beach safe and welcoming, you'll play a big role in creating experiences they'll remember forever.
What You'll Do
Support surf sessions from setup to breakdown
Help youth feel confident, safe, and included in and out of the water
Work alongside coaches and program staff to create memorable experiences
Help with equipment, attendance, and day-of logistics
Represent CSP in schools and communities while helping recruit future participants
Grow your own leadership, communication, and professional skills through training and mentorship
What We're Looking For
Have surf experience and feel comfortable in the ocean
Enjoy working with young people
Show up with a positive attitude and willingness to learn
Work well as part of a team
Want to give back to your community and help make the ocean more accessible
You do not need to have formal coaching experience to apply.
Position Details
Pay: $23/hour
Schedule: 5–25 hours per week depending on program needs
Location: Surf programs take place across San Francisco beaches and schools
Typical shifts: Weekdays with occasional weekends
